Enhance your experience of the route between Dolgellau and Barmouth with our 22 page guide to the Mawddach Trail “Railway Walk”.
Follow the Mawddach Trail with our guide to the history and points of interest along the route of the old railway line between Dolgellau and Barmouth on the southern shore of the Mawddach Estuary.
Our booklet provides a narrative to the natural features and historical artefacts to be found along the 15km route including local history, Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), RSPB reserves and WWII defences.
The Trail has been a popular tourist route since its construction in 1865 and, following it’s closure by Dr Beeching as part of the cuts made in 1965, the route was bought by the Snowdonia National Park who converted it into the multi use path that it is today.
